This is a BIG kit. Nearly a meter long, Revel shoe-horned the complete
unbroken hull into the box diagonally. It fits wall to wall which is
not really a good idea. This is only mitigate by the very stout
packaging. |
Lift out the two hull halves and the rest of the kit is hidden in
another cardboard compartment underneath. |
To help protect the ends of the hull Revell even pack in this soft pad
to limit damage - but, as you can see, it was really needed and took
quite a pounding in shipping. Thankfully all is well. |
The rest of the sprues seem pretty puny in comparison to the size of
the box and the hull sides. |

Pontos U-Boat Type VIIC super-detail set for Revell 05015. Purchased
mail-order from Free Time Hobbies in the USA in February 2016. |
Pontos U-Boat Type VIIC super-detail set for Revell 05015. This comes
from South Korea and is amusingly titled as being a "detail up set".
Let's hope they do not mean that too literally. |

Pontos U-Boat Type VIIC super-detail set for Revell 05015. It comes in
a strong yet slender box - at first sight it doesn't look as if you
get much for your £130... |
Pontos U-Boat Type VIIC super-detail set for Revell 05015. There is a
heck of a lot of stuff in this tiny box including two large photoetch
sets, a whole lot of turned brass, a real wooden deck & some dry
transfers. |
Pontos U-Boat Type VIIC super-detail set for Revell 05015. A look at
the dry transfers and the wooden deck. |
Pontos U-Boat Type VIIC super-detail set for Revell 05015. The wooden
sheet has been laser cut but looks really fragile. I am under the
impression that the model maker is to cut this out which promises a
world of pain. |

Pontos U-Boat Type VIIC super-detail set for Revell 05015. Not only
a bag full of turned brass items but also two cast brass propellors
and some resin cast items too. |
Pontos U-Boat Type VIIC super-detail set for Revell 05015. This nice
big photoetch sheet suggests that we do not need anything else by
Eduard. |
Pontos U-Boat Type VIIC super-detail set for Revell 05015. The
second photoetch sheet is in this steel-like material. Not clear why
but maybe it is intended to be left unpainted? |
Pontos U-Boat Type VIIC super-detail set for Revell 05015. The
instruction sheet is amazing. Each sheet is poster sized and printed
in glossy full colour! |

Pontos U-Boat Type VIIC super-detail set for Revell 05015. It is not
clear that Pontos thought this through. Where does the model maker
put such unwieldy instruction sheets in use? |
Pontos U-Boat Type VIIC super-detail set for Revell 05015. The
instructions are largely in photo form showing the finished
assembly. It remains unclear as to how effectie this will be and I
would have preferred Eduard style assembly diagrams as well for
clarity and assembly sequence. |
Pontos U-Boat Type VIIC super-detail set for Revell 05015. The etch
detail is just lovely and it looks like Pontos have thought of
nearly everything. You get a complete replacement anti-aircraft flak
gun. The deck gun gets heavy treatment too. |
Pontos U-Boat Type VIIC super-detail set for Revell 05015. It looks
like the only extra detail set worth investing in will be the White
Ensign Models one. |

Archer Fine Transfers 72nd scale U-Boat Surface Detail Set AR88023.
Purchased from the manufacturer in the USA in September 2016. |
Eduard ED53198 U-Boot flags (STEEL) purchased from Hannants November
2017. Listed by Hannants as being for the U-IXC although the label
doesn't say this. Flags undoubtedly would apply to any German WWII
1/72nd scale U-Boat. |
