This is an entirely resin La-5 kit that I purchased through EBay relatively
cheaply. There is a Hobbycraft/Academy La-5 on the market but it is very
poor and not recommended. This is a better alternative and one of two La-5
Projects I have. (The other is the Hobbycraft/LTD kit bash found
here.)
This project is now obselete since Zvezda launched a proper Injection
moulded La-5. Amongst the various aftermarket items you can collect are:

Kit Photos

The kit looks remarkably crude at first
sight. The resin is a muddy-brown colour and very thick (of course). |
There is meant to be masks for the
markings and canopy but I can only see the canopy mask... |
The main parts and decal sheet. The
level of detail is actually quite nice with fin engraved panel
lines. |
A further close-up reveals some attempt
at detail in the cockpit. |
 |
 |
|
|
The Instructions are a little
rudimentary but adequate - there simply aren't that many parts. |
Thankfully I have downloaded and printed
a couple of great articles on the kit by Massimo Tessitori and Brett
Green. |

Not listed
above is the "Legend" resin cockpit set for the Academy La-7. This
was picked up cheap off EBay. |
The detail
is beautiful and it is intended to salvage an La-5 cockpit from the
parts - well, it is a better start than the Gremlin cockpit! |
The
Squadron vacformed canopies for both La-5 and La-7. Hopefully these
two will be shared between this and the Hobbycraft/LTD project. |
A set of
white metal propeller blades by Aeroclub. These are included here
just in case we have problems with the resin set. |

 |
 |
|
True
Details Resin wheels - one set reserved just for this kit in case
of problems with the Gremlin wheels. |

Decals

 |
|
|
The SuperScale Decal set 48-428 featuring La-7's and La-5FN's of
Popkov and Kozhedub. Definitely worth checking the references first. |
Three aircraft depicted on the set are
those of Ivan Kozhedub, one La-5FN is on an unknown pilot with the
final 'FN being Popkov. I am not sure if this Gremlin La-5 builds
into an FN though? |
