1) 15th August 2009 - a new addition to the garden. Liya wanted a Bird Table so her sister-in-law got her one for her birthday. It came "flat-packed" in a box. We reckoned that would make it rather too short to be practical as it wouldn't keep out the predators (ie, cats). The problem was easily solved by a longer length of wood that made the Bird Table much higher. Mark screwed it all together and then painted the substitute central pole with green wood preserver (that had been left over from painting the fence). There you have it - a colour-coordinated fence, bird table and compost heap.

2) Saturday 29th August 2009 - several new additions to the rear garden include Liya's potted vegetable patch of Strawberry, Pepper, Aubergine and Tomato plants. Next to them is a more recent addition - two new Water Butts fed by the downpipe from the roof. This should keep Liya's Vegetable Patch in water; hence saving a trip to the Kitchen.

3) Between the Water Butts and the Garage there was space for part of the new Wood Pile. This smaller pile is close to the door where it is easier to grab a few logs for the stove on a cold, wet, evening. This is only a buffer stock with most of the wood being elsewhere....

4) .....the main Wood Pile is actually around the corner next to the Garage. Milla can be excluded from this area making it a bit safer to stack more wood - and higher up.

5) The main Wood Pile for the house down beside the Garage. There is a Gate at both ends to keep the little people out and keep them safe from collapsing log piles. The logs are quite heavy. There is about 1 cubic meter of hardwood logs here. In a future year we'll build a more permanent weather shield over top.

6) 8th April 2010 - the scaffolding goes up so that the Solar Panels can go up.

7) The view from the scaffolding in our rear garden looking down Hollis Road.

8) Looking over the big tree as we stand on the scaffolding at roof level in the rear garden.

17, 18, 19 & 20) Looking down upon the rear garden from the roof level. The cardboard was used to protect the Conservatory roof from debris dropping off the scaffolding. The Solar Panels came inside these cardboard boxes.

25 & 26) 6th May 2010 - the new vegetable patch. The area closest to the camera has been dug out and all the stones removed. Then organic matter from the compost heap dug in. The second patch to the rear is the rest of the compost heap laid out as a mulch to define the area of the rest of the vegetable patch. Both areas will eventually be dug over ready for planting. At this point the Magnolia was cut back and only left in place because it was the only thing holding the fence up - note yellow washing line! In early June 2010 the trees and fence will be ripped out and a new fence fixed in place.

27) Saturday 5th June 2010 - panoramic shot of the "new" rear garden. A blank sheet created by ripping our all the trees, grinding down the stumps and erecting a new closed-board fence. Compare this photo to "24" above which is taken from a similar viewpoint.

28) 5th June 2010 - panoramic shot of the rear garden from the south-eastern corner looking north and west towards the house. On the left was once the original row of leylandii trees - now but a memory.

29) 5th June 2010 - panoramic view of the rear garden looking east and north towards the house. All the old fence panels are piled to the left. These will be broken up for kindling later. In front of the old fencing is the compost heap sitting upside down. This will get a new coat of preservative prior to being rolled back into the corner of the garden. There is now much more space!

30) 5th June 2010 - panoramic shot from the rear of the garage looking away from the house towards the east and south. The new vegetable patch is to the right. Compare this shot to the photo in "26" above which is the same view.

31) Update photo taken on July 25th 2010 similar to "28" above.
