| Next
day we stopped off at Dad's house to see a Picture he painted for us. Sadly
too big for our luggage. |
Later on we caught up with our friend Tanya who was another interpreter at
Kazzinc back in 2000 when Mark first came here. |
Tanya is now working in the Oil Industry near the Caspian Sea and this was a
brief stop over for her in her home town. |
After we walked
our Tanya home we walked back through Ust at night. |
 |
 |
 |
 |
| This
is a night-time view of the bridge over the river. |
Here
we see the new Daniel supermarket in the center of town. |
Next
day we met up with relations of Liya (Marina & Eugene) at one of several
local "Pizza Blue" restaurants. Marina is Liya's Cousin. |
Later on Mark
stopped on the way to Papa's House to photograph these electrical poles that
are mounted on concrete pillars. |
 |
 |
 |
 |
| On the same walk
are these strange plants. They look like a cross between Rhubarb and a
Teasel. |
This is something
you see all over - the TV Aerial shaped like a Clockwork wind-up key. |
This log cabin is
in the Park. |
The same Park with more of
those strange plants. |
 |
 |
 |
 |
| Here
is a statue of Kirov. |
Our
Hero Kirov. |
Mark
and Kirov. |
Liya outside the
local Pub. A couple of years ago Liya had her photo taken here with Tanya
and Anton but the word 'pub' was spelt incorrectly. |
 |
 |
 |
 |
| The
'famous' statue that gets its picture printed on all the Tourist Guides.
Actually it is tiny and stuck on an inconsequential street corner. |
Later on we met up with Anton at his apartment. Anton was one of the Kazzinc
Engineers with whome Mark worked with back in 2000. |
Back
in 2000 Anton was a single man but now he is married with a young son -
Andrei. |
This is Anton's
wife Irene. She is a member of the local Army. |
 |
 |
 |
 |
| Andrei and Liya. He is a very bright lad. |
Sunday 21st August - Liya, Irene and Irene's cousin, Tanya, in the
countryside. |
Tanya drove us up to mountains in her old Opel Kadett (Vauxhall Astra) |
Here is Tanya's
Car. Liya is making a home video whilst the ladies prepare the picnic. |
 |
 |
 |
 |
| This
is a view up the mountain stream by which we parked. |
After the picnic Liya gets stuck into her copy of Cosmo rather than the
'nature' that surrounds her. |
A
view down the stream. |
Later on that
day we took a lift with Anton up to the Russian Cemetery with Papa and
Leelya. |
 |
 |
 |
 |
| Monday 22nd August - this was a busy day as we caught up with three
different groups of people. |
This
was the second group. |
This
is Nazipha on the left, her daughter Saida and husband Kair. |
Tuesday 23rd
August - it is finally time for Liya and Mark to leave Ust-Kamenogorsk and
say goodbye to father. |
 |
 |
 |
 |
| Once
again, Anton gave us a lift. This is the Airport building in the background. |
Liya, Anton and Papa check the tickets. |
Waiting for a
plane... Outside the Airport building, and just visible in this photo, is a
'welcome to Ust-Kamenogorsk' sign. |
The same day -
after our safe arrival back in Almaty we go shopping and see this "Maggan de
Toi" rip-off of "Morgan". |
 |
 |
 |
 |
| Outside in the Market. |
Mark
in the Market. He was here five years ago. It has not changed too much but
there are less beggars and more shops. |
The Almaty
Market. |
Louis Vuitton
probably have no shops in Kazakstan so this shop will be selling
Chinese-made fakes. |
